Community RoomSince the era of decolonization, the United States and China have competed inconsistently for economic and political influence in the independent states of Sub-Saharan Africa. World Insights Series.
The talk will give an overview of key infrastructural and health projects pursued by these countries and their reception by African partners like Zambia.
R. Joseph Parrott is associate professor of U.S foreign relations and transnational history at the Ohio State University. Interested in the intersection of the Cold War, decolonization, and popular politics, he is the author of Dream the Size of Freedom: How African Liberation Mobilized New Left Internationalism (Penn, 2025) and co-editor of The Tricontinental Revolution: Third World Radicalism and the Cold War (Cambridge, 2022).
