Community RoomStories with alternate timelines abound in films and tv. This talk explores parts of these parallel histories and the challenges that arise when we start to tell stories that cross the multiverse.
Stories with alternate timelines now abound in films and tv. The emergence of multiverses in media has curious ties to not only American superhero comics but philosophers’ investigations into logic and so-called “possible worlds.” This talk explores parts of these parallel histories and the challenges that arise when we start to tell stories that cross the multiverse.
Sam Cowling is Professor of Philosophy at Denison University, and the author of Abstract Entities and Philosophy of Comics. As a philosopher, he has written about the existence of possible worlds, the meaning of speech balloons, and the relationship between truth and simplicity. A product of the Canadian west coast, he is now an avid enthusiast of Ohio's rich comics history.
