We will be using a slab technique to create fun and whimsical turtle planters. We will roll out clay and add textures using stamps, texture rolling pins and natural objects to create a pattern for the body (or shell) of the planter. Once textured, the slabs will be wrapped around a cylindrical form and a bottom will be added. Then we will sculpt the rest of the parts of the turtle (heads, legs, tails) and attach to the planter, creating one of a kind, functional garden art! You will be able to select glaze colors from our color chart. The planters will be taken back to the studio at Markgraf Clayworks, where they will be dried and fired. They will then be dipped in the color of choice and fired again. Projects will be picked up from the library when complete. (approximately 4-5 weeks after the event).
Only participants will be allowed in the building for this after-hours program.
Registration required. For Rising Grades 7-12.
